Meet Natasha, the Family Tree Artist

Meet Natasha Sazonova, an award-winning artist and illustrator whose life journey began in Kyiv, Ukraine. Painting since she was a toddler, Natasha became one of the youngest students ever at the Fine Arts Prep Studio at Kyiv’s University of Engineering and Architecture at just four years old.

Natasha started exhibiting her book illustrations alongside professional artists as a child, already dreaming of a creative career.

Natasha immigrated to the United States at sixteen, determined to turn her passion into reality. She graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut with a Fine Arts degree and later earned a Master’s Certificate in web and graphic design from Sessions College for Professional Design.

Her professional exhibitions soon followed, with her work gracing galleries across the U.S., including the Museum of Art and Design in New York City, the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, CT, and the Harbor Gallery at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Throughout her art career, Natasha has also painted illustrations for various publications and created artwork (mainly individual, couple, and family portraits) on commission. Ms. Sazonova doesn’t believe in limiting her creativity by concentrating on one subject or painting in one style. Her art could be seen anywhere from the cover of a popular science book in South Korea to a mixed media couple portrait in a private collection of a Hollywood producer.

As an artist, Natasha works in a variety of styles ranging from collages to highly-detailed watercolors, such as custom family tree paintings she creates for clients from all over the world. At this time she’s had customers from 6 out of 7 continents and is waiting patiently for some penguins to order a family tree from her to complete the list.

Natasha has also left her mark at notable public events like the world-famous CowParades. As an amateur fashion historian with a sharp eye for human behavior, she loves creating whimsical illustrations of people from different eras, especially women’s portraits and lively scenes from the Roaring Twenties.

Ms. Sazonova believes that to be a good artist and illustrator, one needs to be a well-rounded person. She spends a lot of time on self-education and speaks four languages. Natasha has diversified her knowledge into the areas of world literature, history, philosophy, politics, and sciences, and is particularly fascinated with psychology and neuroscience.

When she’s not creating, Natasha cherishes time with her family, friends, and pets. For her, every day is a gift, and inspiration is everywhere—waiting to be transformed into art that tells a story.
