I created this family tree painting for my client’s parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. As always, I did my best to make the illustration both unique and personal for them. The couple got married 60 years ago in the summer. So I tried to reflect the season in the artwork. From the white tiger lilies and the lake in the background to the couple’s white pants, I made sure that the painting screams SUMMER, WARMTH, HAPPINESS!
Each family tree painting I create has its own theme and its own style. I feel like the style for this illustration is retro elegance. The artwork doesn’t have too many details. It’s rather minimalist and classy and has a vintage feel to it. A classic antique Ford in the background adds to the overall look. I chose not to ‘colorize’ the couple’s wedding photo and to keep it black and white. To complete the classy vintage look I chose a wrought iron bench for my client’s parents to sit on.
Although the painting was done for a specific occasion (60th wedding anniversary) I realize that it will most likely become a family keepsake for generations to come. With this in mind, I strategically left a lot of ’empty’ leaves so the future family members could be added to the painting as needed.
The artwork was hand-painted in watercolor.
