I create quite a lot of my custom family tree paintings for my clients’ parents’ birthdays. Usually, I would paint a family tree illustration for just one person. That being said, it doesn’t mean that my artwork couldn’t be a birthday gift for both parents, especially if their birthdays are close. Which was the case with this family tree painting.
My client commissioned a personalized family tree during the Covid pandemic. I knew it was a very special gift for her parents. Especially since so many of us couldn’t see our parents as much as we wanted to during the lockdowns. So I made sure that the painting was really positive and everyone in the family looked extra happy. I chose bright vibrant colors for the project. I even made the Adirondack chairs orange to add even more color to the painting.
Since my client’s father rides a Harley she asked me to include his motorcycle in the artwork. While I usually have no problems painting anything, motorcycles are always somewhat of a struggle for me. It’s difficult to paint something when you’re not particularly familiar with it. So I had to study it first! I’m happy to report that the motorcycle actually came out looking like my client’s dad’s Harley! Per her request, I also painted the Harley Davidson logo on her dad’s t-shirt. To further personalize the illustration I hung a sheriff’s hat on the handlebar to symbolize her dad’s former occupation.
My client’s mom enjoys reading. So I added a stack of books on a side table next to her. I also painted bright red flowers in a vase on the same table. The couple’s family home got placed in the background behind the mom. The family dog, a German Sheppard, also makes an appearance in the painting on the dad’s side.
