This family tree painting, commissioned by a client seeking a special anniversary gift for her husband, diverged from my typical family tree designs to focus solely on the couple, making it an ideal personalized anniversary gift that celebrates a special bond between husband and wife.
While my family tree paintings often include relatives’ names or portraits, this client envisioned a family tree as a symbolic backdrop rather than a genealogical chart. The result was a vibrant couple portrait, rich with details that captured their essence. I wove in their hobbies: his and hers. I also painted their beloved family pets, ensuring the artwork felt uniquely theirs. Their actual living room sofa, a cozy staple of their home, anchored the scene, while the background drew inspiration from photos of their favorite nature walks, infusing the painting with the couple’s special memories.
Every single family tree I paint is different from all the others. Every single one has elements and features that make it unique. For this particular one, I had to paint a ginkgo tree. I’ve heard of ginkgo trees (primarily because of the supplement ginkgo biloba), but I had no idea what the tree itself looked like. And let me tell you, it’s a majestic tree! Especially when its leaves turn yellow. I’ve never asked my client why she chose a ginkgo to symbolize her family, because I didn’t want to pry, but somehow it made sense from what she’s told me about her and her husband. Theirs was yet another love story that makes my job so joyful. What could be more inspiring than illustrating a great love story, right?
Every element in the painting was carefully chosen to reflect their shared life: their love for their fur babies, books, and stargazing. The books in the paintings are the couple’s actual favorite books! This custom illustration, bursting with personal significance, stands as a testament to the power of bespoke art for milestone celebrations.
