Why not include a goat in your family tree painting?

I can’t express my feelings enough about how much I love what I do.  The concept of being able to create what is basically a custom illustration of someone’s life still blows my mind.  Not only people let me into their lives, but they also trust me to do a good job on something as personal as a family tree that will become a family heirloom they will keep for generations to come.

Each family tree painting I create is just so unique, and each one is so much fun to paint!  I never know what my clients will request, but I’m usually prepared to be able to paint whatever it might be.  So far I’ve painted everything from chain saws to oversized reading glasses.  That being said, I still wasn’t prepared to have to paint …a goat with a halo.  Yep, you read it right.  A goat …with a halo.

The more pets the merrier a family tree

As someone who’s had a herd of chinchillas for the past 20 years I’m not surprised by people keeping any types of pets.  After all, by my clients’ requests I’ve so far included frogs, lizards and even hedgehogs into their family trees.  So I wasn’t particularly surprised when my clients requested for me to add a goat to their family tree painting.  The children commissioned the artwork for their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary and wanted to include all kinds of fun details into the painting to illustrate the five decades their parents has spend together.

There was a whole bunch of animals in the picture.  Even a kangaroo…  But I digress….  I just couldn’t stop smiling once my client suggested that since the goat was the family’s childhood pet and has been long gone – I should paint him with a halo.  She asked me if I thought it was a good idea.  I hesitated for a moment and replied to her that I absolutely loved that idea.  Though I did have an ulterior motive…  I wanted to be able to tell people that at one point in my life I’ve painted a goat with a halo!
