Custom Family Tree art – a symbol of love and devotion
I often talk about how inspiring I find my job. It’s inspiring that people choose to remain in a marriage for a lifetime. They stand by each other through thick and thin. Since I started my family tree painting business I’ve encountered a few couples where one of the spouses became disabled and the other stood by their side through it all. As a hopeless romantic I choose to believe that love conquers all. And as an artist who creates a lot of my artwork for couples I constantly encounter proof that it does.
I was really inspired by one of the latest couples I’ve painted a family tree illustration for. Right off the bat I knew that these people were quite special. Reason being that the person who’s ordered the artwork wasn’t a family member as it’s usually the case with the majority of my commissions. She was a lady who works for the couple helping the wife to take care of her disabled husband. Although, I try to make my family tree paintings as affordable as I can, I realize that they’re not by any means cheap. So for someone to order one for her employers has to mean that a person thinks of them as family. That alone was quite a heart-warming thought.
I was moved even more after my client told me that the husband became disabled at a somewhat early age, and the wife took care of him for decades. Nowadays, it is so easy to find a special facility for someone requiring special medical attention. However, this woman chose to keep her husband at home. Not only that, but she also ensured that they keep on enjoying their life together. They did all the things in life that a lot of retired couples do. Went to casinos. Traveled. Kept pets.
I love stories like this. I love when a person’s seeming disability doesn’t stand in his/her way of living a full life. It’s inspiring when a spouse stands by the disabled person’s side regardless of the harsh circumstances. Needless to say I had more than enough motivation to create a truly special family tree painting for this amazing couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.
During their 50 years of marriage the couple raised 3 children and now have a number of grandchildren. To include their family in the painting I added their names to the tree leaves. To indicate the wife’s hobby for roulette I painted it next to her in the background. The husband was a former pharmacist, so I placed a mortar and pestle by his feet. To represent their love of travel I added a few suitcases to the background. I also included the couple’s two cats into their family tree painting.
